Basic Standards of Blackjack Hosting

Rules for Hosting Blackjack

  • Stakes:
Stakes in blackjack are determined by the table limits set by the house or by the dealer in accordance with players in a home game. No other criteria, except the minimum and the maximum table limits is no required to determined blackjack stakes.
  • Decks:
The house should also decide and notify the players on how many decks will be used in the game. It is important to announce the number of decks before the game starts, because the strategy of the game can depend on this factor. The number of decks can vary from one to four. One deck is shuffled normally, while multiple decks are mixed together and shuffled all at once. If more than one deck is used, it is advisable to deal them from a special shoe.
  • Dealing:
According to standard etiquette, after the deck is shuffled, the dealer burns the top card of the deck, giving it face-up to one of the players. This player than indicates where he wants the dealer to cut the deck, with this burnt card. The dealer holds the deck face-up, while the player inserts the burnt card face down somewhere into the deck. The deck is then cut in the place where the burnt card is. In such way, the burnt card, placed face-down, covers the bottom card of the deck and players can not see the latter.
  • Seating:
The number of spots at a blackjack datable is also determined by the house. Traditionally, there can not be more then seven spots, which means that not more than seven hands can be dealt in one game. If there are free spots at the table, viz., the number of player is lower than the number of allowed spots, players can play multiple hands in the same game. However, the number of dealt hands can not exceed the spots limit, so with five players at a seven spots table, only two players can play two hands at once, or one player can play three hands.
  • Changing Rules:
There are a number of variable blackjack rules that can be used, not used or altered on various blackjack table. However, the main format of the game is determined by two factors: how to treat pushes and how much Blackjack pays. Two standard blackjack formats are: Casino Format (in the case of pushes nobody wins and the player gets his original bet back; Blackjack pays 3:2) and Charity Event Format (Pushes go to the dealer; Blackjack pays 2:1)
