Fairfax County police arrested eight people for involving in a sports betting operation that took place from Northern Virginia to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. According to police, they were investigating for two years the Bansal Organization until last weeks arrests. Police claims the sports betting ring was operated by a crime family originated in India with connection across the States. In addition to operating an illegal sports betting ring the crime family is suspected of shipping illegal narcotics across the world, loan sharking, fraud and money laundering. The police investigation was fronted by the Fairfax organized crime unit and was the biggest of its kind in Fairfax County police. It also occupied different police departments. According to police, in last week searches they found more than 2 million dollars in cash and jewelry worth of 1 million dollars. Police believes the sports betting operation was mainly involved in wagering on pro football events. Gamblers could wager through the phone, the internet or at businesses used as covers for the gambling operation. |
