A group who fights against casino on South Side Bethlehem met with the leaders of the Spanish speaking community on Wednesday. About 20 people participated in the meeting that took place at the Council of Spanish Speaking Organizations of the Lehigh Valley.
The Council director translated to the Spanish speaking community David Freeman, representative of Citizens for a Better Bethlehem claims against casino slots. Most of the argument between Freeman and Roger Hudak who supports casinos escaped translations. Hudak, Mayor John Callahans South Side Task Force chairman claimed that the people in his neighborhood are waiting for the jobs created by the new proposed casino.
The councils leaders have voted against Las Vegas Sands Corp. casino bid. Some of the members of the Spanish community who participated in the meeting expressed their worries from the rise of problem gambling in their community, which already suffers from drug addiction and AIDS.
